About Us
VedAI Accessibility - Universal Document Accessibility Platform
Our Story
VedAI was founded in 2024 by Pranam Srivastava (India, IST) and Aarush Bhat (Alberta, Canada, MST), two blind computer science students who faced a simple but frustrating problem: we couldn't access our own educational materials.
After grade 8, STEM education became nearly impossible. Textbooks had no accessible versions. Online resources were images without descriptions. Pranam's experience preparing for JEE (India's engineering entrance exam) made it clear: if you can't see, you can't study advanced math and science without someone manually describing every diagram, equation, and chart.
We spent hours requesting accessible versions, waiting weeks for results that were often incomplete or wrong. So we built VedAI to solve our own problem. Since late 2023, we've been processing documents for ourselves and our friends, refining the workflow until it actually worked in the real world, not just in theory.
Our Mission
Make all educational and life content accessible using AI and technology. Everyone deserves access to knowledge, regardless of visual ability or learning difference.
Who We Are
Just the two of us officially, with a few friends testing features and giving feedback. We're blind CS students and developers who use screen readers (NVDA, JAWS) every day. Every feature we build is tested with actual assistive technology to ensure it works in practice.
We're based across two time zones: Pranam operates from India (IST, GMT+5:30) and Aarush from Alberta, Canada (MST, GMT-7). This gives us approximately 18 hours of combined daily coverage for support and development.
What We've Built
VedAI converts documents to screen-reader-friendly formats. We've processed hundreds of documents for ourselves and friends since we started R&D in late 2023. The service now handles:
- PDF text extraction with math equation recognition
- Optional image descriptions for charts, diagrams, and illustrations
- Document restructuring for Word, HTML, EPUB, ODT, and RTF files
- Interactive image chat for exploring images through conversation
- Image maps for navigating complex diagrams section by section
- 11 output formats including HTML, Markdown, DOCX, EPUB, and LaTeX
- Support for 150+ languages
- Organization accounts for schools and institutions
Our Vision
We're not stopping at document conversion. Our vision is to develop accessibility solutions for all domains of life - not just education. We want to build multiple products that use AI and technology to serve everyone with accessibility needs, from 6th graders reading their first science textbook to researchers accessing academic papers to professionals navigating daily life.
Join Us
We have partnerships in the works and we're always looking for collaborators - schools, institutions, accessibility organizations, or anyone who shares our vision. If you're interested in working together, get in touch.
We're working on this project first, and hoping awards and recognition follow. But what matters most is solving real problems for real people. If VedAI helps even one student access their textbook independently, we've succeeded.
